From the many conversations I’ve had with fellow residents – and from personal experience -I know that improving the system of support for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is hugely important.
So many families of children with SEND have told me that they have really struggled to get the support they need. I’ve heard about the difficulties many have faced in a system that – to put it bluntly – is broken.
The government has announced that they plan to publish a Schools White Paper looking at SEND reform this Autumn. Ahead of that, as your local MP, I want to hear from you and will make your voice heard by sharing your views directly with Ministers.
At this roundtable, we will move beyond what’s wrong today and – together – go back to first principles to help shape this, including:
- What should underpin any reform of the SEND system?
- How do we practically make change happen? Who is involved in that and what role should they play?
- How do we build a system where every child can achieve and thrive?
If you live in the Filton and Bradley Stoke constituency and would like to join this roundtable, please RSVP below. Let’s make change happen together.
The venue is wheelchair accessible and young people are very welcome. Children will need to stay with their parent/carer during the event, and there will be books and toys available (if helpful!) as well as refreshments.
If you could please just email [email protected] to let us know how many people to expect overall, along with anything else you’d like to share if relevant, that would be much appreciated.
If you are unable to attend but would like to share your thoughts, I’ve set up a short survey here and would really welcome hearing from you that way too.
Thanks,
Claire
